TBM Environmental Policy

TBM has formulated this “TBM Environmental Policy” (hereinafter referred to as “The Policy”) to realize the corporate philosophy and pass on a sustainable society and a rich natural environment to future generations. TBM relentlessly strives to achieve net-zero environmental impact throughout the value chain of our business and solving environmental and social issues through its business activities.

Application

The Policy applies to all board directors, executive officers, and employees of TBM Co., Ltd. and its subsidiaries. The subsidiaries shall establish their own environmental policy by adopting or revising The Policy at their decision-making body, ensuring that their board directors, executive officers, and employees fully understand the provisions of the environmental policy.
Each subsidiary may enact their own environmental policy, incorporating the contents of The Policy. Such environmental policy may vary in accordance with legal systems and social customs by country or region, or business characteristics, or may include provisions that do not exist in The Policy. Under no circumstances, however, may they contradict the provisions of or weaken the effectiveness of The Policy.
When a subsidiary establishes their own environmental policy, it shall expressly stipulate that the environmental policy has been developed based on or with reference to the “TBM Environmental Policy.”

1. Compliance, Pollution Prevention and Continuous Improvement

In addition to complying with environmental laws, we aim to establish voluntary standards to prevent pollution and contamination following the precautionary principle. This policy will be understood by every member of the company. We will set goals, monitor progress, and strive for continuous improvement through the development and operation of an environmental management system.

2. Product and Service Development based on Life Cycle Thinking

Our approach to product and service development emphasizes a strong appreciation to the life cycle. We aim to reduce environmental impact at all stages, including research, development, procurement, production, sales, transportation, use, recycling, and disposal.

3. Addressing Priority Issues

We are committed to actively addressing the following priority environmental issues.

  1. Climate Change Actions
We strongly recognize the impacts of anthropogenic climate change. To accelerate the mitigation of climate change, we are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from our operations and the value chain. This will be accomplished through actions such as energy conservation and the active transition to renewable energy. We will actively get involved in carbon removals if business opportunities are obvious. Furthermore, for climate change adaptation, we will proactively engage in risk assessment, avoidance, and reduction throughout our business.
  2. Measures against Resource Depletion and Promotion of Circular Economy
We strongly recognize the limited nature and importance of the resources. Our aim is to maximize their lifetime value and promote efficient use through actions such as rigorous resource management and circular use of the resources we use, with a goal of eliminating waste generation from our business.
  3. Water Conservation
We strongly recognize the scarcity and significance of water. We are committed to responsible water management, which includes managing water supply and discharge, along with conserving and recycling water. We will design our facilities and formulate response plans to mitigate unexpected events such as heavy rains and floods.
  4. Ecosystem Conservation
We strongly recognize the value of terrestrial and marine ecosystems and biodiversity. Our efforts to conserve them extend through raw material procurement, use of biological resources, production and processing, sales, research and development, transportation, land use and development projects, investment, and management of land holdings.

4. Information Disclosure and Cooperation with Stakeholders

We will disclose not only this environmental policy but also other environmental information related to our business in an easy-to-understand manner. We will also promote cooperation with our external stakeholders* for the conservation of the global environment.

*External stakeholders include suppliers, business partners, local residents, municipalities, government, industry associations, and international initiatives among others.
