The environmentally friendly "LIMEX Bag" has been adopted for guest room bag products at Mitsui Garden Hotels nationwide.
- The system will be gradually introduced from October as part of the Mitsui Fudosan Group's sustainability initiative -
TBM Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and CEO: Nobuyoshi Yamasaki; hereinafter referred to as TBM) is pleased to announce that its LIMEX Bag *2, which is made primarily from inorganic materials such as calcium carbonate (limestone), has been adopted for the bag products used in Mitsui Garden Hotels nationwide (34 facilities, total number of rooms: 8,902 *1) operated by Mitsui Fudosan Hotel Management Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Suzumebe Masaru; hereinafter referred to as Mitsui Fudosan Hotel Management).
*1 As of October 2024
*2 LIMEX products: Products that use LIMEX material and contain more than 50% (by weight) of inorganic substances such as calcium carbonate.
■ Overview
This case was adopted through a collaboration between TBM and JTB Shoji Co., Ltd. (Head office: Nakano-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President Yuji Kato), which develops trading businesses for inns and hotels. Starting in October, four types of LIMEX bags will be introduced at Mitsui Garden Hotels nationwide: laundry bags, sanitary bags, multi-purpose bags, and large bath bags.
■ Background of recruitment
As environmental issues such as climate change and plastic waste become more serious, companies are being asked to operate their businesses more sustainably than ever before. In this social situation, the Mitsui Fudosan Group has set "&EARTH" as its group vision, based on the principles of "coexistence and coexistence," "linking diverse values," and "realizing a sustainable society," all of which are symbolized by the "&" mark, and is contributing to social and economic development and the conservation of the global environment.
This time, the environmentally friendly "LIMEX Bag" was adopted as part of the "Mitsui Garden Hotels" operated by Mitsui Fudosan Hotel Management Co., Ltd. The hotel chain has been considering strengthening its efforts to contribute to reducing the environmental impact, including the "Mitsui Garden Hotel Ginza Tsukiji" which opened in September.
The biggest factor in deciding to adopt the bag was the environmental performance of the "LIMEX Bag," which is expected to reduce the amount of plastic used and suppress CO2 emissions. By switching to the "LIMEX Bag," it is expected that the amount of plastic used will be reduced by approximately 42% and greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by approximately 22%* 2 compared to the plastic bags currently in use. In addition, the physical properties of the "LIMEX Bag," which can be changed to meet needs such as preventing permeation, were also a deciding factor in its adoption.
*1 Multi-purpose bags are compared with general LDPE products.
*2 This is an approximate value based on TBM's estimates and is not a guaranteed value. It is subject to change depending on the data acquisition situation, etc. Greenhouse gas emissions are calculated from raw material procurement to incineration (excluding the processes of punching, processing, and transportation).
TBM will use this opportunity to actively promote the use of "LIMEX Bags" in a variety of industries, including the hotel industry both domestically and internationally.
■ Features ofLIMEX Bag
・Reducing the amount of petroleum-based plastic used
Because the main raw material is inorganic substances such as calcium carbonate (limestone), the amount of petroleum-based plastics used can be reduced compared to conventional plastics.
・Reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including CO2
It is possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including CO2, from the procurement of raw materials to their disposal.
- Compatible with existing shapes and sizes
Since we can utilize existing manufacturing equipment, we can produce plastic bags, shoppers, and other products of the same shapes and sizes as before.
