  • LIMEX

The environmentally friendly material "LIMEX Pellet" has been adopted for the bottle container of the super alkaline ionized water "wash-U" series.

-First use of LIMEX bottle, recognized for its environmental performance in helping to reduce petroleum-based plastics and greenhouse gas emissions-

TBM Co., Ltd., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Atsuyoshi Nobuyoshi; hereinafter referred to as TBM)'s "LIMEX Pellet," which is made mainly from inorganic materials such as calcium carbonate, has been adopted by Ark Three International Co., Ltd. (Head office: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture; CEO: Dai Miyamoto; hereinafter referred to as Ark Three International) for the bottle container of "wash-U," SAIW (super alkaline ionized water), which has high cleaning power, antibacterial and deodorizing effects, and helps prevent corrosion and rust. This is the first time that a LIMEX bottle *1 has been adopted. This product is currently available at some "wash-U" stores. Compared to general polyethylene bottles, this bottle is expected to reduce the amount of petroleum-based plastic used by about 29% and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including CO2, by about 12% *2.

*1 LIMEX products: Products that use LIMEX material and contain more than 50% (by weight) of inorganic substances such as calcium carbonate.
*2 Based on LCA by TBM (calculation of greenhouse gas emissions from raw material procurement, blow molding, and disposal (incinerating) (transportation process omitted)). May vary depending on manufacturing conditions. Values are for reference only, not guaranteed values.

■ Overview of this initiative

LIMEX Pellet, developed, manufactured and sold by TBM, contains more than 50% inorganic matter such as calcium carbonate, which is expected to reduce the amount of petroleum-based plastics used and greenhouse gas emissions including CO2. In addition, since it can be used in a variety of molding methods for conventional plastic products and can be molded using existing equipment, it can also be used in direct blow molding products* such as bottle containers that are generally made from polyethylene.

"wash-U" by Ark Three International is a brand that uses water that is kind to both people and the environment to redesign the habits of cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing, and solve environmental and social issues. In addition to manufacturing and selling "wash-U," which has three functions of cleaning, deodorizing, and disinfecting and has zero environmental impact, Ark Three International has also set up "wash-U SPOTs," refill stations where you can refill and purchase only the amount of "wash-U" you need, when you need it, and is working to reduce the environmental impact throughout the entire distribution chain.

When Ark Three International was considering materials that would reduce the environmental impact of producing returnable bottles for refill purchases of wash-U, they decided to use LIMEX bottles due to their environmental performance.

* A molding method in which resin such as polyethylene is heated and melted, extruded into a cylindrical shape, sandwiched between a mold, and inflated with air. This is widely used for bottle containers for liquid detergents, shampoos, and other toiletries.
