TBM Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Nobuyoshi Yamasaki; hereinafter referred to as TBM) is pleased to announce that LIMEX pots made mainly of limestone have been adopted for the “kaHANA Project,” a local contribution activity to decorate the city of Yokohama with flowers at “The Kahala Hotel & Resort Yokohama,” operated by Resorttrust Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Naka-ku, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture; President: Yuki Fushimi; hereinafter referred to as Resorttrust). LIMEX pots are molded using "LIMEX Pellet", which reduces the amount of petroleum-based resin used compared to plastic pots.
In late March, as part of SDGs activities, children from Minatomirai Honmachi Elementary School in Yokohama City planted flowers in the flowerbeds of Takashima Chuo Park using The Kahala Yokohama's original cultivation kit, which includes LIMEX pots. This activity, which is the first of the "kaHANA Project", will continue to be carried out as an activity in which the children of Yokohama Municipal Minato Mirai Honcho Elementary School learn how to grow flowers among themselves and participate in the maintenance of the local environment while being aware of the development of the city for the future.
Background/Summary
"The Kahala Hotel & Resort" is a luxury hotel on the island of Oahu, Hawaii that has been loved by VIPs from around the world for more than half a century. In September 2020, "The Kahala Hotel & Resort Yokohama" opened in the Minato Mirai 21 district of the international city of Yokohama, as the first global expansion under the "The Kahala Hotel & Resort" brand. At The Kahala Hotel & Resort, we believe that it is our responsibility and mission to protect nature conservation activities, local culture and arts, and pass them on to the next generation. Based on this belief, we have launched an activity called "KISCA (Kahala's Initiative for Sustainability, Culture & the Arts)" to promote efforts to build a brighter, more beautiful and sustainable future for Hawaii.
Until now, TBM has been working with local governments to promote LIMEX-based recycling-oriented urban development initiatives, including the activities of the Kanagawa Upcycling Consortium, which was established in collaboration with Kanagawa Prefecture to promote the upcycling of LIMEX, and the signing of a partnership agreement with Yokohama City for recycling-oriented innovation. With the opening of The Kahala Hotel & Resort Yokohama, we have participated in the "kaHANA Project" with the aim of increasing the recognition of LIMEX in Kanagawa Prefecture and promoting material circulation. As the first part of the kaHANA Project, which colors the streets of Yokohama with flowers, Resort Trust provided a cultivation kit with a set of LIMEX pots to the children of Yokohama Municipal Minato Mirai Honmachi Elementary School in January this year. The children spent about two months growing the flowers and planted them in the flower bed of Takashima Chuo Park, which is located halfway between the elementary school and The Kahala Hotel & Resort Yokohama. In the future, in order to upcycle used LIMEX bowls into useful items for educational and welfare facilities in Yokohama City, we are soliciting ideas for items to be upcycled from children at Minato Mirai Honmachi Elementary School in Yokohama City.
