TBM converts power used at its manufacturing sites to 100% renewable energy
- Contributing to an annual reduction of approximately 1,346 tons of CO 2 by switching the electricity used at the Tagajo Plant to a zero CO 2 emission factor -

TBM Co., Ltd., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Nobuyoshi Yamasaki, hereinafter referred to as TBM) is pleased to announce that its Tagajo Factory in Miyagi Prefecture, which is its manufacturing base, has been converted to virtually 100% renewable energy. .
From December 1, 2021, the power used at the Tagajo Plant, the second plant in Japan, has been switched to power that is substantially "100% renewable energy" and "zero CO 2 emission factor". All of the power used at the base is renewable energy. This conversion will reduce indirect emissions (Scope 2) of energy-derived greenhouse gases (GHG) such as CO 2 associated with the operation of the Tagajo Plant by approximately 1,346 tons per year*.
In the future, TBM will aim for zero GHG emissions from its own operations, and will also contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions (Scope 3) in the supply chain of companies that have introduced LIMEX Sheet and LIMEX Pellet.
* Based on results from December 2020 to November 2021
Overview
As the movement toward a Decarbonization society gathers momentum around the world, TBM is taking a variety of approaches to addressing climate change. By expanding the use of LIMEX, a new material that can replace plastic and paper, we are reducing the use of petroleum-based plastics and forest resources. Furthermore, in August 2020, we switched to renewable energy for the electricity used at our first domestic plant, Shiroishi Factory, in order to reduce GHG emissions in the LIMEX manufacturing process.
The Tagajo Factory's switch to electricity with virtually 100% renewable energy and a zero CO2 emission coefficient means that all electricity used at the company's manufacturing sites has been switched to renewable energy, marking a major step towards realizing the company's plan to achieve 100% renewable energy at its domestic business sites by 2025. TBM will continue to work towards achieving the ambitious goal of "TBM Pledge 2030," of "becoming carbon negative by 2030," by not only thoroughly conserving energy but also by converting other fuels and electricity used in offices to renewable energy, and by procuring electricity that is already being used renewable energy using methods with high additionality (the effect of encouraging new capital investment in renewable energy).
