TBM Corporation (hereinafter referred to as TBM) and Kanematsu Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Kanematsu) are pleased to announce that their environmentally friendly label "LIMEX Aqua Jet Label" has been adopted as an Epson-evaluated paper for Seiko Epson Corporation's (hereinafter referred to as Seiko Epson) commercial color label printer "ColorWorks Series". This is the first case in which a label using "LIMEX Sheet" as a substrate has been adopted for a commercial printer. Sales began in August 2024 through Epson Sales Co., Ltd. With this adoption as an opportunity, TBM and Kanematsu aim to further expand the use of this environmentally friendly product as a label for a wide range of applications, including the chemical and food industries, in order to realize a sustainable society.

■ Background

In response to global warming caused by greenhouse gases and the worsening of marine pollution caused by plastics, environmental awareness is rising throughout society, and there is also a growing need for environmentally friendly adhesive products for stickers and labels. Seiko Epson Corporation has set "Environmental Vision 2050" which aims to achieve "carbon minus" and "zero underground resource consumption" by 2050, and provides environmentally friendly products created through efforts to reduce the environmental burden, such as energy saving in production processes and products, improving resource efficiency, and eliminating harmful substances.

Features of "LIMEX Aqua Jet Label"

"LIMEX Aqua Jet Label" is an environmentally friendly label that has been processed to be optimal for water-based inkjet printing. The "LIMEX Sheet" used as the base material can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including CO2, and the use of petroleum-based plastics plastics compared to synthetic papers such as PP (polypropylene) and PET (polyethylene terephthalate) sheets that are commonly used for labels. Seiko Epson has evaluated the environmental performance of "LIMEX Aqua Jet Label" and its print quality, which meets their standards, leading to its adoption as an official product.

■ Each company's efforts

TBM is promoting the use of its independently developed eco-friendly material LIMEX in Japan and overseas, and its factory (Tagajo, Miyagi Prefecture), which manufactures LIMEX Sheet, uses electricity that is virtually 100% derived from renewable energy sources and has a CO2 emission coefficient of zero, thereby actively reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including CO2, throughout the entire product life cycle. emissions throughout the product lifecycle. The Kanematsu Group has set "Decarbonization Initiatives for Society" as one of its materiality (key issues). As one of the measures to contribute to the reduction of global CO2 emissions, we are developing and marketing the LIMEX Aqua Jet Label jointly with TBM starting in 2022. Furthermore, the Kanematsu Group aims to become "carbon neutral" (*1) by 2025 and "carbon negative" (*2) 1 million t-CO2 by 2050 as a goal to address climate change.
