TBM releases introductory video for its CCU business, a key focus area
~ From Decarbonization to the era of "active carbon," visualizing a new vision for resource circulation to tackle global challenges ~
TBM is pleased to announce the release of a business introduction video, "[Business Introduction] TBM's CCU Business: From Decarbonization to the Era of "Active Carbon"," which visualizes the overview and future vision of its CCU *1 business, in which we are currently concentrating its management resources to drive its next growth.
*1 CCU: Carbon Capture and Utilization (CO₂ recovery and reuse)
■ The Future of TBM's CCU Business in 5 Minutes: Highlights of the Video
This video introduces our CCU business, its mechanisms, market environment, and business advantages, based on the concept of "active carbon," which utilizes CO₂ not as something to be reduced, but as a valuable resource.

• Market environment for CCU
A market projected to grow rapidly to approximately 71 trillion yen by 2050

• Manufacturing process of CCU calcium carbonate
Utilizing calcium derived from waste materials such as steelmaking slag

• Applications in the building materials
Building materials such as flooring and tiles that fixes CO₂ for long periods of time

• Value proposition of CCU business
"CO₂ Fixation", "Waste Recycling", "Local Production & Local Utilization Model"

■ Background Context : Why is TBM doing this now?
• The enormous market of 71 trillion yen in 2050 and the importance of CCU
As climate change countermeasures become an urgent global issue, Decarbonization across the entire supply chain is a pressing challenge for all industries. Within this context, the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that CCUS*2 will contribute approximately 19% to reducing CO₂ emissions towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2070, making it a crucial technological area. Within CCUS, our carbon recycling business utilizes CCU technology, which transforms CO₂—the cause of global warming—from a "debt" into a valuable "CCU," to produce calcium carbonate using CO₂ as a raw material and to manufacture and sell related products. Driven by the global trend towards Decarbonization, the global market size for CO₂-based products is projected to reach approximately 71 trillion yen*3 by 2050.
・Leveraging our proprietary patent base, we can bring the technology to practical use 15 years ahead of the government's projections.
TBM holds over 250 patents related to calcium carbonate particle shape control, molding, and mixing technologies, cultivated through its core business, "LIMEX." By leveraging this technological foundation for material development and product commercialization, CCU products by 15 years ahead of the projections in the "CCU Roadmap" formulated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry*4.
・Solving the challenges of the "construction industry," which accounts for 37% of CO₂ emissions.
In particular, the construction industry, which accounts for approximately 37% of global energy-related CO₂ emissions*5, faces a global challenge in reducing "embedded carbon" associated with the manufacturing and construction of building materials. Against this backdrop, TBM is currently focusing on building materials that can sequester CO₂ for long periods, and manufactures and sells its own CCU flooring materials. In addition to having already been adopted at domestic events, a project to construct a CCU plant overseas is underway, and concrete social implementation is beginning both domestically and internationally.

■ Future Developments
TBM began as a materials development business and has diversified its operations in line with the needs of the times. Currently, we are concentrating our management resources on CCU and the high-performance recycled material "CirculeX" business, bringing together the technological knowledge and business assets we have accumulated to date. We will accelerate resource circulation by implementing products such as CCU building materials in society, building a "local production for local use" model through plant construction, and manufacturing and selling recycled material that have strength exceeding that of virgin plastic*6 that we have developed, and will advance our material circulation as a "carbon solutions company" that will play a role in the infrastructure of global carbon and material circulation.
*6Calculation method: Evaluation results from tests conducted in accordance with JIS K 7171 (flexural strength) and JIS K 7111 (Charpy impact strength) (company research). The physical properties are representative values and not guaranteed values.
Target grades: "High-strength + low-odor grade", "High-strength grade", Comparison target: Virgin PP (average value)
