TBM Concludes Sales Agreement for LIMEX Pellet (Injection Molding Grade) with PT. Kemas Indah Maju, Indonesia's Largest Cosmetic Container Molding Manufacturer

~Contributing to the needs of major global cosmetics brands to reduce petroleum-based plastics and greenhouse gas emissions~

TBM Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and CEO: Nobuyoshi Yamasaki; hereinafter referred to as TBM) is pleased to announce that it has signed a sales contract for the injection molding grade of "LIMEX Pellet" for cosmetic containers with PT. Kemas Indah Maju (Head office: Indonesia; President Director: Urip Tjendera; hereinafter referred to as PT. LIMEX Pellet, which contains more than 50% inorganic materials such as calcium carbonate, can reduce the amount of petroleum-based plastics petroleum-based plastics, and can reduce CO2 emissions, a factor in climate change, by up to 28%. *1 Limestone, the main raw material for LIMEX, has less price fluctuation than petroleum, making it possible to provide it at a stable price and it can be used as an alternative material to ABS resin and polypropylene (PP), which are used in many cosmetic containers. Furthermore, because LIMEX's main raw material is limestone, it is possible to achieve a matte, luxurious texture and a heavy feel, and it is scheduled to be adopted by major global cosmetic brands.

In order to meet the accelerating need to reduce the environmental impact in the cosmetics industry, and taking into consideration the quality of major domestic and international cosmetic brands handled by PT. Kemas, LIMEX's environmental performance and price competitiveness were highly evaluated, leading to the conclusion of a sales contract for LIMEX Pellet for cosmetic containers (injection molded products such as compacts, cosmetic jars, and lipsticks). Going forward, we will contribute to solving environmental issues facing the cosmetics industry through the spread of cosmetic containers made with LIMEX Pellet.

Overview

Environmental issues such as climate change, resource depletion, and water resource crises are rapidly progressing around the world, necessitating action at both the national and corporate levels. Each country imposes its own regulations on plastics, with 170 countries, including Japan, banning or restricting the use of plastic products. Meanwhile, driven by population growth and economic growth in emerging countries, the global plastic resin market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.5% from 2020 to 2027, reaching $522.5 billion by 2027. It is estimated that 12 billion cosmetic containers are discarded annually worldwide, most of which are not recycled. The cosmetics industry is implementing various measures to change this situation, including recycling cosmetic containers, using recycled material, and proposing refillable packaging.

Injection molding grade LIMEX Pellet can be molded using existing facilities around the world *5, leading to reduced plastic consumption and CO2 emissions compared to petroleum-based plastics. In addition, limestone, the main raw material, has a more stable supply than petroleum and has less price volatility, making it possible to provide it at a stable price.
