Eco-conscious "LIMEX Sheet" Adopted for TOPPAN's Decorative Sheets for Construction Materials
“Reducing CO₂ and Plastic to Promote Sustainability in Construction Materials”

Tokyo, December 2, 2024 – TBM is pleased to announce that its low LIMEX Sheet has been adopted as the base material for decorative sheets used in construction materials by TOPPAN Inc., a subsidiary of TOPPAN Holdings. This marks the first-ever use of "LIMEX Sheet" for decorative sheet applications.
As climate change caused by global warming becomes an increasingly urgent issue, companies are under growing pressure to address environmental concerns. In the construction and building materials industry, the demand for environmentally conscious materials is rising rapidly.
LIMEX Sheet, made primarily from inorganic materials such as calcium carbonate (limestone), reduces the use of petroleum-based plastics compared to conventional plastic sheets and helps lower greenhouse gas emissions, including CO₂. Furthermore, TBM's factory in Tagajo City, Miyagi Prefecture, operates using electricity with a virtually zero carbon emission coefficient, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions across the entire product life cycle.
As part of TOPPAN's commitment to sustainability in the construction materials sector, the company has actively sought alternatives to petroleum-based plastics for decorative sheets primarily used in residential applications. Through extensive evaluation, "LIMEX Sheet" was selected for its ability to reduce CO₂ emissions and the reliance on petroleum-based plastics.

Going forward, TBM will continue promoting the adoption of "LIMEX Sheet" in the construction materials sector to help build a more sustainable society.
■ What is LIMEX Sheet?
LIMEX Sheet is an intermediate product made by processing "LIMEX," a composite material containing more than 50% (by weight) of inorganic fillers such as calcium carbonate. It contributes to the conservation of petroleum, water, and forest resources, which are typically required for the production of plastics and paper. The environmental performance of "LIMEX Sheet" is evaluated through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), a scientific method used to analyze the environmental impact of a product from raw material procurement through production, distribution, use, and disposal.
・Reduction of Petroleum-Based Plastics and CO₂ Emissions & Conservation of Water and Forest Resources
Compared to conventional petroleum-based plastic sheets and synthetic paper, "LIMEX Sheet" significantly reduces petroleum-based plastic usage and greenhouse gas emissions, including CO₂. Unlike traditional paper, it does not require wood pulp and consumes minimal water during production.
・Superior Durability and Water Resistance
With excellent durability and water resistance, "LIMEX Sheet" can be used in a variety of environments, including outdoor settings and wet areas.
・Versatile Applications Using Existing Equipment
LIMEX Sheet" can be processed using existing printing and conversion equipment, making it suitable for diverse applications such as posters, labels, maps, and files.
