Joint Development by TBM and Toppan Printing Using New Material LIMEX
TBM and Toppan Printing have signed a basic agreement for joint development work aimed at the expansion of applications of the environmental material LIMEX. Up until now, the companies have been looking into the potential business opportunities provided by LIMEX, by combining the technology behind TBM’s new material, with the printing technology, plus the marketing and sales power of Toppan Printing.
Going forward, based on this basic agreement, the two
companies will define the fields to be explored for this joint development work, aimed at the development of new applications that leverage the special characteristics of LIMEX. In addition, the two companies will explore the details of their technology licensing terms for conducting joint operations, including manufacturing, etc. in their quest to create a high value-added market.
In addition, with agreement from both companies, any manufacturing technology, or finished products or materials, such as glues, etc. that are born out of this joint development, shall be considered for widespread manufacturing and sales. Please refer to the press release below for more details.

Implementing the Barrier-free Mirai Speaker® at our Company Headquarters
TBM has implemented the barrier-free Mirai Speaker® on the floors of our company headquarters, aimed at people with hearing disabilities.
SoundFun Inc. (President and CEO: Kazunori Sato) is the company that provides the Mirai Speaker®, a speaker capable of delivering clear sounds to distant locations even at small volumes. Verification tests on this speaker were carried out in collaboration with the Tsukuba University of Technology, resulting in 80% of people
noticing an improvement in their hearing, including not only people with hearing disabilities, but also people with normal hearing. The speaker also constitutes a device that complies with the Act on Elimination of Disability Discrimination, which was enacted on April 1st, 2016.
Our company has taken into consideration the features offered by the Mirai Speaker®, installing it across the floors of our headquarters in our aim to improve our provision of a barrier-free environment.
Going forward, this implementation of a barrier-free speaker shall constitute one step in our business activities toward the provision of a much more comfortable, barrier-free environment to our customers.

TBM was featured in an episode of the TV Tokyo Series “Tokoro-san No Gakko Dewa Oshietekurenai Sokontokoro (What They Don’t Teach You at School, by Mr. Tokoro),” broadcast on October 28th (Fri).
This was our company’s first appearance in a variety entertainment show. This entertainment and educational show is chaired by George Tokoro, featuring a great variety of interesting knowledge and information. The video footage was primarily recorded in Shiroishi, Miyagi
Prefecture, where our company factories are located, placing particular focus on the water-resistant properties of our LIMEX paper.

First Winner of the Social Impact Award for Companies Achieving the Biggest Social Impact in the World, Granted by Plug and Play in Silicon Valley, United States
We are pleased to announce that our company has been selected as the first annual winner of the Social Impact Award for Companies Achieving the Biggest Social Impact in the World (“Plug and play awards LIMEX the first annual Social Impact Award”), by one of the three biggest accelerators in Silicon Valley, United States, specializing in the growth and development of startup companies. We are also pleased to announce that LIMEX was awarded second prize, under the New Materials and Packaging Category, at the pitch event Plug and Play Expo, held on October 27th (US time). TBM was also awarded top position at the pitch event held by Plug and Play in July this year “Batch 2: Plug
and Play Companies—New Materials and Packaging Program Selection Day,” becoming the first Japanese company to be chosen for the acceleration program within this category. LIMEX Featured on NHK News’ Ohayo Nippon
LIMEX was featured on Machikado Johoshitsu of the Ohayo Nippon program on NHK News, on October 21st (Fri).
Based on the title of “Is this paper?” the program showcased our company’s business cards made of limestone, rather than paper, presenting applications for this new material and broadcasting footage of our factories in Shiroishi.

Participating in the Water Project Promoted by the Ministry of the Environment
As of October 21st, 2016, our company has started taking part in the Water Project promoted by the Ministry of the Environment.
Following the announcement of the Basic Act on Water Cycles in April, 2014, the Ministry of the Environment launched the Water Project as a public-private partnership project, aimed at widely promoting the importance of healthy water cycles and water sources among the community. As a recycling-oriented materials
manufacturer, our company is currently working on the conservation of water resources in the manufacturing of its new material LIMEX. We are also working on the development of LIMEX ACTION, an awareness program that promotes the protection of our depleting resources, by converting the amount of LIMEX materials manufactured and sold, into saved water resources. Going forward, we shall continue to endorse the objectives of this project, contributing to the conservation of water resources through all our business activities.
