What is material circulation business?

TBM has set "TBM Pledge 2030" as an ambitious goal to realize the Sustainability Revolution. We aim to circulate 1 million tons of LIMEX and plastics in 50 countries by 2030. First, we aim to build a material circulation platform in Japan, and then expand the knowledge we have gained overseas. In addition to being a material manufacturer, we are developing products using the recycled material "CirculeX", and planning to expand our recycling plant model in Japan and overseas.

Why we need to circulate material

In Japan, it is said that 86% of the waste plastic discharged in Japan is recycled, but 5.09 million tons, or 62%, is simply incinerated through "thermal recycling," which recovers thermal energy through incineration. Approximately 70% of the 660,000 tons of waste is actually burned. And thermal recycling is not recognized as recycling by European and American standards. On the other hand, only 2 million tons (24%) and 270,000 tons (3%) of plastics are recycled through "mechanical recycling" and "chemical recycling".

In order to overcome this situation, the Ministry of the Environment has announced the "Plastic material circulation strategy" based on the Basic Law for Establishing a Recycling-based Society, setting a milestone of doubling the recycling of plastics by 2030. In addition, with the enforcement of the "Act on Promotion of material circulation Related to Plastics" from April 1, 2022, the shift to mechanical recycling, will accelerate.
